Assigning Inline Devices

To assign an inline device

The assignment of inline devices requires a special procedure for GIS designs. Although this kind of feature is logically related to span-type work locations, it must be assigned to a point-type work location, where two or more spans may intersect. Therefore, before assigning an inline device, you must first place a point on the GIS map and use the Set Tap Device command to indicate which span is controlled or protected by the device. The assigned device will be represented graphically on this span in the GIS according to its configured geometry properties.
  1. Open the design in the Design Assistant.
  2. In the GIS window, place a point on the span that is controlled or protected by the device.
  3. In the Design Workspace, select the point-type work location that is located nearest the tap point (i.e., the work point where the device is physically installed).
  4. From the Actions menu of the Design Assistant, point to Tapping and then select Set Tap Device.
  5. To assign the inline feature to the work location, drag the item from the Devices page of the Features Catalog to the target work location.
